Dante had been surprised that there were no calls for devils causing trouble today. Instead he had stayed home and sent Syn, Lady, and Nevan out to handle the only three calls received. The girls had decided afterwards to take Charon and Ifrit over to Syn's grandfather's house so that they could see Charon.

So he'd stayed home, bored out of his mind and took care of Acheron. It'd been a few hours and he was sitting in front of the TV watching Ghost Rider with Acheron.

He knew Vergil was in the Nexus, having seen the note he left. Dante was bored and lonely, which was never really good.

Vergil was quiet when he returned from the Nexus, pausing to sense who was home and who wasn't. Finding only Dante's presence, he smiled faintly, Eva chirruping quietly by his ear. He reached up to stroke the little queen, heading to the living room.

Acheron sensed them before Dante did, chirping and sending images of family. He hopped on the back of the couch and turned towards where Eva and Vergil would enter from. Dante chuckled and rubbed his head, turning his head towards the door, "Hey Verge. How was exploring the Nexus today?"

"The same as always," Vergil replied, watching in amusement as Eva flew over to hover in front of Acheron with demanding chirps. She wanted to sun, and she wanted Acheron to join her.

Acheron chirped back and flew over to the big window, leaving plenty of room for the little queen.

Dante chuckled, "Well she knows what she wants."

He looked at Vergil, "Ah, so it was the same old stuff?"

He stood up and moved to Vergil, wrapping his arms around him in a hug. He nuzzled Vergil's neck, "You smell good."

"Hm." Vergil smirked slightly as Eva followed Acheron, settling in the space he left her with a running monologue of scolding.

"Yes, the same old insanity and failing logic." He tilted his head a little, looking at Dante from the corner of his eyes. Unseen by Dante, he bared his fangs briefly before abruptly snapping at his brother and drawing blood.

Dante growled, his fangs bared, "What the hell was that for? You challenge me?"

Dante stepped back, his hand going to Rebellion, "Wait, you challenged me?"

His eyes lit up and the sexiest smirk crossed his face, "Bring it on, Vergil."

Vergil's smirk widened as he slowly licked the blood from his lips, thumbing Yamato from its sheath in preparation to draw the sword. A brief mental command had both fire lizards fleeing outside to the roof before Vergil charged, Yamato flashing toward Dante's head.

Dante ducked and brought Rebellion up to block the attack, he pushed Yamato away and swung in low towards Vergil's gut. This was a fight he had no intention to lose.

Vergil had no intention of losing either, easily sidestepping the attack and falling into their old battle rhythms. Just like old times, he thought, lashing out repeatedly with Yamato to try getting past Dante's guard.

Not really just like old times, Dante was quicker, more able to defend and offend. He was stronger, and he wanted to win so bad he could taste it.

Vergil's lashes only got by him twice, cutting his arm and a gash on his cheek, but that was it.

Dante retaliated, swinging Rebellion with precision strikes.

Vergil let out a quiet hiss when he wasn't quite fast enough to avoid a slice. Narrowing his eyes and baring his fangs in a growl, he leapt back out of Dante's range, retreating to the other side of the room. Before Dante could follow, Vergil called on a technique he hadn't used in years, summoning his phantom swords and sending them flying toward Dante.

Of course, he took great care to make sure he wouldn't hit the TV. He wasn't stupid enough to damage that, even accidentally.

Flying swords, no problem. He just powered right through them. Of course he got hit with one of them. But he didn't let that stop him at all. He used his speed to reach Vergil, aiming for his gut with a swipe of Rebellion. He finished that off with a spinning kick to Vergil's head.

Vergil hissed, ducking and rolling to avoid the attack. Too fast, too strong. Dante was- pardon the pun- a hell of a lot stronger and faster than Vergil remembered. This time Vergil was the one left scrambling to avoid blinding speed, rather than the other way around in their battle on Temen-Ni-Gru's roof. He'd have to increase his power much sooner than he'd planned.

Letting out a low snarl, he kicked a chair at Dante, hoping to buy himself those precious few seconds he needed to summon the power he needed, without the devil form.

Dante hacked the chair in half and came at him again. He knew he couldn't let Vergil have any time. If he did, then he knew with Vergil's intelligence, he'd figure out some way to beat him, and that was not happening. Period, end of sentence.

He swung Rebellion with precision strokes, pressing his advantage. Using his strength and speed to his maximum.

Vergil snarled and darted to the side, bolting for the office and the weapons there. All the while, he was struggling to raise his power.

Dante gave chase, flipping over Vergil and cutting off his escape route.

Vergil froze momentarily, growling, then he remembered another technique he had. Narrowing his eyes, he let out a full-fanged snarl, before abruptly disappearing.

He reappeared in the office, stumbling a little from the effects of not using Displacement in so long, then looked around frantically at the weapons. His eyes briefly rested on Force Edge, then moved on. Finally he settled on Agni and Rudra, grabbing the twin swords and whirling to face Dante.

He blinked when Vergil used Displacement, but cursed and turned. Noticing he had Agni and Rudra, he grinned.

"Fighting me with weapons I already beat?"

He charged at Vergil, his sword ready. Let's see what Vergil could do.

Vergil smirked briefly, then spun both swords, creating a whirlwind of fire. Briefly juggling the twin swords and Yamato, he sliced the whirlwind, sending both halves arcing toward Dante while racing to the side, flinging phantom swords at Dante as he went.

He was engulfed in one of the halves, but he rode it out, and he was hit with one of the swords and staggered, but he wasn't giving up. He took off after Vergil, half tempted to use Ebony and Ivory, but that'd be an unfair advantage, this was a challenge, and he'd win it with his sword. As he went, he grabbed Force Edge, using it in tandem with Rebellion.

What was good for the gander, was good for the other gander.

He used his speed to gain the advantage over Vergil, using both weapons.

Well, if Vergil hadn't reached the power level he'd been aiming for before, he did now as his rage exploding to new heights when he saw Dante using Force Edge. Letting out an inhuman roar, he charged, almost glowing with his Devil Trigger aura minus the form, the power increasing that of the twin swords.

He was fighting in earnest now, eyes glowing demonic red as he lashed out with sword, wind, and flame.

Dante grinned, and fought just as hard, upping his strength level to just under trigger. It seemed no matter what Vergil sent at him, he powered through it, his eyes glowing red.

He lashed out quickly, hitting the flat edge of the swords against the hilts of Vergil's swords.

Vergil let out a startled, pained snarl as his hands went numb and he lost his grip, the swords flying to stick deeply in the floor and walls, well out of reach. Then he tried to bolt for another weapon.

But his surprise had made him falter just long enough...

Dante swooped behind him, wrapping his arms around Vergil's body, trapping his arms to his sides. His fangs went to Vergil's neck and he growled out, "Submit."

Vergil growled, freezing when he felt Dante's fangs at his neck, but he didn't submit just yet. He remained tense as a coiled spring, his own fangs bared to their full length as he frantically weighed his options.
